Lord Skanda was describing various incidents of Kashi to sage Agastya. One of them describes - the holy river Ganga is famous as Maa Ganga in Kashi. Ganga Maiya entered Kashi with full speed. When Mother Ganga came to know about the establishment of Shiva Linga in Kashi, she also established a Shiva Linga on the east side of Vishweshwar Linga. Darshan of Gangeshwar Linga is rare (difficult). If one worships this linga on the day of Dussehra, all his sins are washed away. Reading or hearing about Gangeshwar Linga, bathing in the Ganges is equivalent to merit.
