Shri Chandraprabha Swami Kalyanak Jain Temple

About

History The history of this holy temple begins with the 8th Tirthankar Shri Chandraprabhu Bhagwan. Once upon a time, a brave king named Mahasena ruled here. As he was fortunate, his queen Lakshmimati had a dream indicating the birth of a Tirthankara. At that very moment, the soul of Padmanabha, having completed his two previous incarnations, entered the womb of the would-be mother. After full pregnancy, the queen gave birth to a son on Paush Krishna 11 during Anuradha Nakshatra. Since the queen longed for "Chandra" (moon) during her pregnancy, the boy was named Chandraprabhu. The gods in heaven under the leadership of their chief Indra celebrated the occasion of this birth of the Tirthankara with great joy and happiness. On attaining youth, Sri Chandraprabhu married and after ruling as a king enjoying royal pleasures for many years, he decided to take initiation. So he renounced the life of worldly opulence with a thousand kings by donating whatever he had, both in cash and kind, during a whole year before initiation and lived in the garden of thousand mango trees on Pausha Krishna 13 during Anuradha Nakshatra. Entered the order of Jain monks. After three months of wandering as a Jain monk, he returned to the same garden and attained enlightenment only on Phalgun Krishna Saptami while practicing Kayotsarga meditation under the "Punnaga" tree, when the ruling nakshatra was Anuradha, the deity in heaven at that time. built a Samosaran under the leadership of their king Indra. In this way, the four Kalanayakas of Lord Sri Chandraprabhu viz., Chyavana, Janma, Diksha and Keval Jnana took place at this place. The dates mentioned above are according to the Svetambara traditions. This pilgrimage has been described in scriptures and pilgrimages etc. This pilgrimage is mentioned in the 14th century composition "Vivid Tirthakalpa" composed by Shri Jinprabhsurishvarji. There are many hills of ancient times near this place and it is believed that if proper excavation is done, many remains of prehistoric times and other valuable materials are likely to be found. Every dust particle here is holy because the four Kalnayakas of Lord Shri Chandraprabhu, the 8th present Tirthankara were born in this area. The description of a place of such importance is beyond words. During this period had the Lord been physically present and delivering his religious discourses, countless people would have felt their lives complete. Even today the spiritually purifying vibrations give pilgrims an extraordinary peace of mind and as soon as they set foot on this soil, they forget all their external activities and worries and are immersed in the bliss of meeting God. The natural beauty of the place where both these temples are built on the banks of the river Ganga is a sight to behold. There is no other temple nearby.
