Thagiriraj Himavan reached Kashi to meet his daughter Parvati, taking with him many gems, diamonds and jewels as gifts. When Giriraj heard about the greatness, magnanimity and magnificence of Lord Vishweshwar's palace, the matchless beauty of his palace, Giriraj felt very ashamed and realized that the gift he had brought with his daughter was negligible compared to the wealth available with Lord Shiva. Thinking like this, it was evening and Giriraj started resting. Giriraj decided to build a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. He called all his skilled artisans, craftsmen and laborers from the Himalayas and ordered to build a beautiful Shiva temple. He had unwavering faith that by getting the Shiva temple built, he would not only get respect in this world, but he would be seen with respect in other worlds as well. Kashi Khand Adhyay 66 describes that if one builds a Shiva temple, he will get the virtue of building a building in all the three worlds. The fruit that is obtained by performing big sacrifices - that person will get this fruit. After getting the advice and orders of Giriraj, Giriraj's craftsmen and artisans kept working day and night and till morning they built a beautiful Shiva temple near the Varuna river. Soon Giriraj established a Shivling named Shaileshwar in this temple. After bathing in Panchganga and seeing Kalbhairav, Giriraj left gems, diamonds and jewels with him at certain places and left for his palace in the Himalayas.Two Shivganas saw the temple and immediately informed Lord Shiva about it, they were surprised that there was no temple till a day before and how such a beautiful temple was built in just one night. Lord Shiva along with Mother Parvati along with his entourage reached out of curiosity to see that temple. There he saw the beautiful temple and the Shiva Linga established in it. At that time divine light was emanating from that Linga. Lord and Mother Parvati were overjoyed to see the magnificence of the temple. The Lord saw the artwork of the temple and understood with divine vision (eyes) that this good deed was done by Giriraj. Mother Parvati was also happy, she requested God that you should reside in this Linga, God agreed on this. Lord Shiva further explains that those who bathe in Varuna and worship Shaileshwar will get salvation, will never be sad and will always get the son's love of Mother Parvati.
