Madhyameshvara
Shiva
About
The greatness of this Shiv Linga was special because of being self-manifested and secondly because it was the focal point of the Kashi region, and as the Kashi region started shrinking, the need for that center also decreased, because the importance of the center only happens as long as the circumference of the circle around it is also there. The circle whose radius was five Krosh, was the Kashi region. Then gradually its size and magnitude began to decrease and after being chariot shaped, it eventually became conical, as it is at present. The work of the center is not done in the conical area, so its greatness also decreases. But, it still remained the center of the Varanasi region because its boundary has been told around it up to each cell. Therefore, its greatness still remained, but due to the presence of a supreme Siddhapeeth (Kritivaseshwar) very close to this Shivlinga, its importance continued to be suppressed, even a Purankar called the size of the free area around Krittivaseshwar as a shell. It is not known exactly where the temple of Madhyameshwar was in ancient times, but it is certain that the present temple was built a little south of its old place. The number of people who worship it is very limited at this time.
