About

Lord Shiva sent Brahma to create disturbance in Kashi so that King Divodas would leave the holy city. Brahmadev assumed the form of an old Brahmin and reached King Divodas. King Divodas honored Brahmadev a lot and asked what service should I do for you. The old Brahmin expressed his desire that he wants to perform the Avashwamedh Yagya, so you should arrange the materials and arrangements related to the Yagya. With the help of King Divodas, Brahmadev performed not only one but ten Ashwamedha Yagya. This place is popular by the name of Dashashwamedh Tirtha i.e. Dashashwamedh Ghat. Earlier the name of this place was Rudrasarovar. In this sequence, Brahmadev established a Dashashwamedeshwar Linga and decided to stay in Kashi. Bramhadeva could not find any fault in the functioning of King Divodas, therefore he could not find any topic to tell Lord Shiva. (Kashi Khand-Chapter-52) By bathing at Dashashwamedh Ghat and worshiping Dashashvedeshwar Linga, all the sins of life are washed away. The devotee who performs the above worship on the first day after the new moon of the month of Ashadha gets the benefit of high-quality virtue and the sins of two births are finished. By taking bath at Dashashwamedh Ghat and worshiping Dashashwamedheshwar Linga from the first to the tenth day after the new moon day of every month, the present life becomes happy and freedom from rebirth is attained. The above act becomes more important from Jyestha month.
