Ambareesh ji was the ultimate Vaishnav but he knew that there is nothing in life without Shiva. That's why he established a linga for the darshan of Shiva and got engrossed in his meditation. When he did penance for a long time, Shiva was pleased and appeared to him and said, "We are pleased with you." When asked for a boon, Ambareesh ji said - Lord, there is nothing greater than your service. So Shiv ji said go, the one who will see and worship you with true spirit will attain immortality. By worshiping him in this way, a person will attain immortality.
