Shivgan named Kukkut came to Kashi and settled here after being influenced by the charming and religious atmosphere here. He established a Shiva Linga and there he got engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva. Later this linga was named Kukkuteshwar. In Kashi Khand Adhyay 53, it is described that if someone worships the egg-shaped Kukkuteshwar Mahadev, he will get all happiness and will not be reborn.
