The present name of Karkotak Koop is Nagkuan and on Nagpanchami there is a yatra and a big fair is held here. Here was the residence of Maharishi Patanjali. Maharishi Patanjali ji started yoga by doing meditation here. Kashi Khand Adhyay 66 describes various pilgrimages Karkotak Koop and Karkotak Nageshwar Linga. The devotee who worships the Karkotak Nageshwar Linga by taking a bath in the Karkotak well (Nagkuan) does not have the fear of death by consuming any kind of poison. There is no effect of any type of poison inside the body. It is necessary to mention here that the Karkotak Nageshwar Linga is merged in the Karkotak well, when the water in the well recedes or the water is taken out from the well for cleaning, the Karkotak Nageshwar Linga can be seen. As long as the Linga remains inside the water, the water of the well remains divine. Devotees worship this well with full devotion. A Shiva Linga is established near the entrance of the Nag Kuan access road. This Linga is worshiped as Nageshwar Mahadev.
