About
The Jagannath Temple at Assi Ghat is a replica of the revered Jagannath Temple at Puri in Odisha. It was constructed in 1802 by two respected citizens of the Bhonsle state, Vishwambhar Ram and Beni Ram, as a tribute to the deity. The architecture and sculptures of the temple are similar to the original temple. The temple houses the divine idols of Lord Jagannath, his respected elder brother Balabhadra and beloved sister Subhadra. The pious practice of worshiping these idols is similar to that of the iconic Jagannath Temple in Puri. Additionally, four Vaishnava deities – Krishna, Rama Panchayatana, Kaliyamardana (an attractive representation of Lord Krishna), and Lakshmi-Narayana – are located in the four corners of the temple. The temple is open from 06:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 03:00 PM to 09:00 PM. Aarti takes place in the temple in the morning and evening.
