Regarding the origin of Someshwar Jyotirlinga in Shiva Purana, this story is described that in order to get rid of the curse of tuberculosis given to the moon by Prajapati Daksha, Shiva did penance for six months continuously at a place called Prabhas and chanted ten crore Mahamrityujaya mantras. Chanting was done, due to which Lord Shiva was called Someshwar there in his name to increase the greatness of that area and to expand the status of the moon.
