Shiva killed all the demons, then Daruka prayed to Parvati to protect her family, on which Lord Shiva said that I will reside in this forest to protect the devotees. In this way Shiva and Parvati themselves became situated there. Jyoti Swaroop Mahadev Nageshwar and Parvati Nageshwari were called. Describing its greatness in Shiva Purana, it has been said that this Jyotirlinga fulfills the wishes of all the three worlds.
