Dashashvamedheshvara

About

Dashashvamedheshvara. After passing a few blocks along the bank in a square building of red stone there are many divine images, one of the major lingams is Dashashvamedheshvara. According to puranic mythology this lingam is set up either by King Divodasa or by Lord Brahma himself as a mark of completing a royal ceremony of the ten horse-sacrifice (ashwamedha). The historical sources infer that at this site the revivalist Hindu dynasty of the 2nd century, the Bhara Shivanagas had performed ten-horses sacrifice, same building is also housed images of several ancient folk goddesses (mata) like ƒitala, Dulari and Khoki.
