About

In the infinite stories of Ganga, from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar and from ghats to temples, the identity of the devotees has remained for ages. Similar is the identity of the eighty-four main Ghats located on the banks of the Ganga of Kashi. In this episode, Sheetla Ghat is also considered to be of great importance. Although it is still considered as a part of Dashashwamedhghat by the local people. It is believed that in the beginning of the 18th century, Ahilyabai Holkar, the queen of the Indore princely state of Madhya Pradesh, renovated the ghat and while giving it a firm shape, got many works done for the convenience of the devotees, which made it convenient for those coming from far off places. Earlier this part used to come under Dashashwamedh Ghat. But a few years after the construction of the ghat, the Sheetla Mata temple was established here. Which was later named Sheetla Ghat, which is known by the same name till today. Sheetla Temple has a special identity because of its architecture. There is a crowd of believers here during Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri, people wish for virtue by bathing and donating on the ghat itself. Although there is a crowd of people throughout the year, but the crowd of people is more in religious events, especially on the ghat.
